Activities in Forres and Moray

Willowbarn Rafford is located on the Dava Way, a popular walking and cycling route which follows the old railway between Grantown and Forres.

There are many interesting features along the way. Dallas Dhu Distillery Visitor Centre is part of the Speyside Whisky Trail and allows visitors to learn about the traditional craft of Whisky production. We are only a short ten minute drive to the river Findhorn for some salmon fishing.

The Dava Way takes you directly into Forres, a beautiful historic town that has award-winning gardens and the famous Grant Park, that hosts events throughout the year including Forres Theme Day, Forres Highland Games and  the European Pipe Band Championships.

Your own personal loch, with trout!

As Willowbarn is situated in a 12-acre garden with 2 tranquil lochs, we are delighted to be able to offer our guests the opportunity for a spot of trout fishing. The lochs are stocked with Rainbow trout and Carlo and Fiona are very happy for guests to help themselves to a trout for supper!

If you wish to have fly fishings lessons from an experienced angler, Carlo is very happy to organise lessons for you. Prices for this activity will be negotiated with the instructor

Cycling and walking

Free us of bikesThe wonderful country location that Willowbarn is set in is ideal for cyclists to enjoy both road and mountain bike trails.

Carlo and Fiona are delighted for guests to use bikes that they have to offer for use, but of course if you bring your own bikes we are able to offer secure storage for them. Perfect cycle routes for families are in abundance, a favourite destination by bike is Findhorn Bay.

For wildlife enthusiasts Willowbarn is the perfect destination. The woodland and lochs attracts deer, badgers, foxes, hundreds of birds including Osprey who visit for a trout or two! Children visiting Willowbarn can be kept very busy trying to spot all the wonderful wildlife that visit and stay in our woods.

Carlo is busy getting some canoes ready for a spot of canoeing on the lochs. A perfect place to practice before progressing to more challenging rivers!
